Block Bomb Sale to Israel (S.J.Res. 138)
Summary
Motion to discharge from the Foreign Relations Committee. Would have blocked a $151.8 million sale of 1,000-pound bombs and related components to Israel. These are the heavy unguided munitions used in airstrikes on refugee camps, hospitals, and apartment blocks in Gaza and southern Lebanon.
Editorial Note
36 Yea, 63 Nay. Senate leadership paired this vote with the bulldozer vote an hour earlier so each one would get half the news. 36 of 47 Dems voted to stop the sale, meaning 11 Dems voted to keep shipping 1,000-pound bombs to a military that has spent 18 months dropping them on refugee camps, hospitals, and apartment buildings in Gaza and now southern Lebanon. Four fewer senators were willing to block the bombs than the bulldozers. Support has never been higher and the sale goes through anyway.
