Iran War Powers Resolution (S.J.Res. 104)
Vote: March 4, 2026Senate, 119th Congress, Session 2Roll Call #46
Summary
Motion to discharge from the Foreign Relations Committee. Would have required the removal of US forces from hostilities against Iran not authorized by Congress under the War Powers Act.
Editorial Note
Five days after the war started, the Senate had its first chance to weigh in. Tim Kaine and Rand Paul forced a discharge vote on war powers, and every single senator voted along party lines. 47-53. Every Republican said the president had the authority to wage this war without their approval. Every Democrat and independent said he did not. Fetterman was the lone Democrat to break with his party, voting Nay.
