H.Res. 409In Committee

Recognize the Nakba Resolution (H.Res. 409)

House, 119th Congress, Session 1

Summary

Non-binding resolution recognizing the 1948 Nakba, the expulsion and dispossession of roughly 750,000 Palestinians from their homes during the creation of the State of Israel, and affirming the right of return under UN General Assembly Resolution 194.

Editorial Note

Rashida Tlaib introduced this version on May 15, 2025, the 77th anniversary of the Nakba. It asks Congress to acknowledge the 1948 expulsion that created the Palestinian refugee population still living in camps in Gaza, Lebanon, and Jordan. She has introduced versions of the resolution in the 117th, 118th, and 119th Congresses. None has received a committee hearing, and the cosponsor list has never exceeded a small group of progressives.
